Bush House Hotel Remedies Violated Code Provisions Following November 10th Condemnation

Health it

Borough of Quakertown issued the following announcement on Jan. 12.

Two months after the Borough of Quakertown condemned the Bush House Hotel Complex due to numerous code violations compromising the health and safety of Borough residents, the owner has remedied the most significant code violations which prevented occupancy of the Hotel. Remediation included fumigation of the entire complex, a task which could not be completed while the property was occupied. As of today, the condemnation of the complex is being lifted, allowing for re-occupancy of the property.

As you may recall, on November 10, 2021, the Borough of Quakertown took action and condemned the Bush House Hotel. During the November 10 inspection, Borough officials found an unprecedented infestation at the property as well as other unsafe, unsanitary conditions consistent with what Borough officials and first responders have seen over the last several years inside the building. Despite numerous warnings and notices provided to the owner of the Bush House Hotel concerning these conditions, there was no evidence that the owner had taken any significant steps to rectify these problems pointed out to him on several occasions by the Borough.

All 61 residents displaced after the condemnation who requested assistance were provided rehousing and social service assistance from Bucks County administration, the Bucks County Opportunity Council, and the YWCA. In addition, officials connected those vulnerable residents, including the elderly and those afflicted with mental illness and drug dependence, with the proper agencies for assistance and treatment. The Borough of Quakertown would once again like to extend its sincere gratitude to these agencies for their assistance.

As always, the Borough is committed to the health, safety, and welfare of all the residents and will continue to make sure the Bush House Hotel remains suitable for occupancy.

At this time, no further questions will be answered.
