Borough of Quakertown issued the following announcement on Jan. 11.
LOOKING TO VOLUNTEER IN THE COMMUNITY?
Quakertown/Richland Youth Aid Panel is seeking volunteer candidates to serve on a diversionary panel for first time non violent offenders for youth ages 10 to 17yrs of age. The panel serves as an alternative to the court system. The panel hold the youth accountable for their actions to the community and victim while providing a support system in their lives. The goal is to prevent further criminal activity and rehabilitation.
HOW DO I VOLUNTEER?
The requirements to volunteer consist of the following: (1) must reside within Quakertown School District for one year; (2) must be at least 18years of age; (3) must complete an application; (4) must pass criminal/child background clearances; and (5) a diverse background and experience working with children is preferred.
After the application phase there is a mandatory training which consists of six (6) classes. Each panel member would then be sworn in by one of our local judges. The panel meets once a month at our police department in the evening. Our volunteers come from all types of backgrounds which make the panel diverse.
