DELAWARE VALLEY UNIVERSITY: Delaware Valley University Names Three New Trustees

Volunteer

Delaware Valley University issued the following announcement.

Delaware Valley University has added three new members to its Board of Trustees. All three are alumni of the University.

“The experience of our new Board members will be valuable as we expand our graduate programs and implement our ‘Dream.Design.Do.’ strategic plan,” said DelVal President Dr. Maria Gallo. “I’m pleased to be welcoming three DelVal alumni to the Board. All three new members have used their DelVal degrees to not only launch successful careers, but also to help people improve their quality of life. The new Trustees bring experience in a variety of areas, such as business, science and medicine, which will help the University continue to enhance the student experience.”

The University’s new Trustees are:

Dr. Frederick Cope ’69

Dr. Cope is the CEO of Physis International, LLC, a company that is dedicated to expanding the use and access to medicines and healthcare worldwide. Previously, he worked for Navidea Biopharmaceuticals from 2009 until 2018, serving in roles including senior vice president and chief science officer. Dr. Cope is active in a number of professional and scientific organizations and serves as an editorial reviewer for several professional journals. Dr. Cope has received many honors in the U.S. and internationally, such as a Japan National Cancer Center Research Institute Award and the Ernest H. Volwiler Medal in Medical Research. Dr. Cope received his bachelor’s degree in biology from DelVal, his M.S. from Millersville University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut.

Rick Finkel ’83

Finkel is the retired president and founder of Applied Nutrition Corp., a company that grew from a startup into a global leader in the manufacture, sale and distribution of medical food products. Recently, Finkel sold Applied Nutrition to Group Danone (known as Dannon Yogurt in the U.S.). He created Applied Nutrition to provide superior nutrition and great tasting products for people with rare metabolic diseases. He has sponsored numerous clinical studies to improve the health and well-being of those afflicted with these diseases. Many products from these studies are now used globally. Finkel currently consults in business development for food manufacturing companies. A member of a legacy family (with his father, Gilbert Finkel, graduating from DelVal in 1957), Finkel earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from DelVal in 1983.

Dr. Gary Ulrich ’82

Dr. Ulrich is a retired orthopedic surgeon who is now a clinical professor at Indiana University School of Medicine. He is a past president of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (AOAO), current president of the AOAO Foundation, and a recipient of the AOAO’s highest service award, the Donald Siehl Award. In addition to his involvement with AOAO, he is a board member of the Wabash Valley Community Foundation. Dr. Ulrich earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from DelVal in 1982. He graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in 1986.

“In addition to welcoming our new members, the University would like to thank the Trustees who have recently finished serving on the Board – including Allen Childs, Marlene De la Cruz, Greg Gallant, Greg Krug ’77, and Michael Rettig – for their service,” said Dr. Gallo. “During their time on the Board, they provided insight and experience that helped DelVal make significant progress and achieve important strategic goals. I look forward to working with our new Trustees as we continue to implement our strategic plan.”
