Bucks County Community College issued the following announcement.

Series of virtual events includes Instagram takeovers by current students, Facebook live Q&As, and a special live session on Zoom just for parents and guardians

Bucks County Community College invites the public to “Open House October,” a series of online events to showcase opportunities at the top-rated two-year college, culminating in a live online session just for parents and guardians on October 29.

Informational videos about the college, which was recently named the number one online community college in Pennsylvania, can be found at bucks.edu/OpenHouseOct. In addition, the college is using its Instagram and Facebook social media channels to profile current students, answer questions, and roll out short videos ahead of an October 24 premiere on the college’s YouTube channel.

For example, Nico Albertson, who graduated in 2019 with a health sciences degree then returned to major in nursing, took over the @BucksCCC Instagram page recently to post live videos and answer questions as he went about his typical day as a Bucks student.

“I chose to go to Bucks because it was the best option financially for me,” the Yardley resident said during the takeover. “I love the college, and I love the fact that I’m not in debt.” Alberton’s IG takeover can be viewed on the college’s Facebook page at facebook.com/BucksCCC.

On Friday, October 16, criminal justice major Brianne North of Richland, class of ’22, will be interviewed live on Instagram by Casey Grunmeier, the college’s admissions recruiter. And on Monday, October 19, Tadiwa Gwatiringa, a biomedical sciences major from Zimbabwe, class of ’21, will take over the college’s Instagram.

Professors share their passion to teach and what each academic department has to offer in a new video that debuts at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 24, on the college’s YouTube channel, youtube.com/BucksCCC. The premiere will be followed by a Facebook live question-and-answer session.

Open House October culminates with a live parents and guardian night at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 29. The “Parents Night In” event takes place online using the Zoom videoconference tool, and features academic department deans, advising and transfer staff, as well as the Bucks Admissions team, who will provide information and answer questions.

“If you have a high school senior at home, your child might be thinking about what's next,” said Marlene Barlow, director of admissions. “Often a difficult decision, this year has its own set of challenges, so we’re inviting parents to Zoom in to learn more about Bucks, where you don’t have to go far to get far.”

Bucks County Community College offers more than 80 programs of study in seven academic departments – Arts; Business & Innovation; Health Sciences; Kinesiology & Sport Studies; Language & Literature; Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM); and Social & Behavioral Sciences. Programs lead to either a two-year associate degree or shorter-term certificate.

During the ongoing pandemic, most courses are offered remotely and online.
